Orthodontics and treating decay with composite
Today we bring you a multidisciplinary case in a young patient in which we combined orthodontic treatment with treating decay using composite.
As is usual at the clinic, before carrying out any treatment the doctors decided to get the teeth and gums completely healthy first.

Treatment plan
First we carried out a professional dental cleaning in which we removed tartar and plaque and showed the patient hygiene techniques that would let him control gum inflammation and prevent new decay.
Once the cleaning was done, we moved on to treating the decay. To do that we carried out composite build-ups to restore the size and shape of the teeth, choosing the composite whose shade best matched the patient’s enamel.
Once the esthetic part was complete, he had clear aligner treatment. First an impression was taken with a scanner, and then we checked that the sequenced aligners fitted the shape of the teeth perfectly.
That is why decay has to be treated before the impressions for the aligners are taken, so that there is no discrepancy afterwards between the shape of the teeth and the aligners and they fit like a glove.
The final result after treatment
Thanks to treating the decay with veneers and to the orthodontic treatment, we have met our objective of keeping the patient’s mouth healthy in 3 ways:
– We have removed the decay and taught the patient how to stop it coming back
– We have cleaned the gums and given the patient oral hygiene instructions
– We have put the teeth in the right place so as to keep them stable in the long term and stop them wearing down further
