The moment these patients sit down in our office we always explain clearly that, as well as improving how things look, it is vital to correct the dental problems they may have that compromise their oral health in one way or another.
The patient in today’s clinical case is an example of that. She came to us asking for a change that had to be tackled from several angles, which is why we worked on her case from a multidisciplinary point of view. The patient was not at all comfortable with the state of her mouth. She had reached a point where it was affecting her daily life, as she could not bite with her front teeth.

Once we carried out the clinical examination we saw that the patient had an open bite that kept her from eating normally. This poor bite had caused major changes in her teeth and jaw joint. As a result the patient suffered chronic headaches, since her jaw could not find the right position to settle into.
Bearing in mind the problems in her mouth, the treatment plan we drew up for this patient was as follows:
- First we treated the gums to remove the tartar and the gum inflammation that were present.
- Once that problem was solved we began orthodontic treatment to correct the malocclusion.
- When the orthodontic part was finished we began the esthetic dentistry part, which included teeth whitening to change the dark color of the teeth. Esthetic veneers were also fitted, restoring the shape of the incisors that had been lost and worn away as a result of the incorrect bite.
