Here is the case of a middle-aged patient who came to our clinic wanting to improve the position of her teeth. She has a lovely, very wide smile; however, her teeth were tilted incorrectly and she had severe crowding in the lower arch.
Crowding treated with Invisalign clear aligners
To treat her crowding, we decided on two distinct stages of treatment:
- Orthodontic stage: orthodontic treatment with the Invisalign clear aligner technique. The aim of the treatment was, on the one hand, to correct the crowding and widen the dental arches. That is essential if all the teeth are to be correctly aligned. When teeth are crowded it is because the jaws do not have enough room for them, which is why we have to work on the bone so as to avoid extractions. Our working philosophy is always to keep every tooth in the mouth, which is why working on teeth and bone together is essential if every tooth is to have its own space.
- Esthetic stage: teeth whitening and a composite veneer. The patient had 2 things to improve. First, the color of her teeth. It was a dark shade that we decided to treat with teeth whitening. We did that in two stages: in-practice whitening with a very high concentration product, and at-home whitening with 16% carbamide peroxide, placing the whitening product inside trays made to measure for the patient’s teeth. Once the whitening stage was over, we repaired the fractured upper right lateral incisor with a composite veneer in a single session at the clinic.
