Periodontitis, commonly known as gum disease, is a periodontal condition that can seriously affect oral health and the appearance of a smile. Although it tends to be associated with older adults, it can also affect young people
Our patient came to the practice with clear signs of advanced periodontitis. Her symptoms included loss of gum attachment, gum recession, black gaps between the teeth and more tooth on show, which made her teeth look longer
These problems also brought greater tooth sensitivity and a high risk of tooth loss if they were not treated properly
The first step in the treatment was to tackle the periodontal disease so as to stabilize the patient’s condition. We carried out periodontal treatment including deep cleaning and scaling and root planing to remove the plaque and tartar built up below the gum line.
Because of how severe the gum recession was on the upper left incisor, surgery was needed. That procedure helped reduce the depth of the periodontal pockets and regenerate some of the lost tissue
Once the periodontal disease was stabilized, Dr. Peydro carried out clear aligner treatment. The orthodontic treatment helped realign the teeth, closing some of the gaps created by the gum loss and improving both the function and the appearance of the patient’s smile.
With the periodontal disease under control and the teeth correctly aligned, we moved on to the esthetic stage of the treatment.

We carried out professional teeth whitening to remove the stains and discoloration and to give us a lighter, brighter base to work on.
The final stage of the treatment was to close the black periodontal gaps with composite veneers. We used a direct technique with esthetic composite, carefully sculpting the material to fill the spaces between the teeth and restore a natural, attractive appearance.
The composite veneers not only improved the way the teeth looked but also provided extra protection for the exposed areas of the teeth.
