Whitening our teeth makes us look a lot younger, since white teeth give people a more youthful appearance. White teeth are associated with better health, better hygiene and a much younger smile.

How long does teeth whitening treatment last?
- Once we whiten our teeth, and as long as we follow the doctor’s advice, the results of the treatment will last for years. Teeth darken over the years for various reasons such as diet, drinking coffee or drinking red wine and other dark drinks. What is more, age makes teeth turn yellower and grow older, just like any other part of our body.
- To keep our teeth white for longer we should come in every six months and have a dental cleaning twice a year to remove tartar and plaque. On top of that, every year or two we will do top-up whitening sessions at home to restore any shades we may have lost over time.
What can I eat during teeth whitening treatment?
We should eat white foods, which means avoiding coffee, red wine, Coca-Cola, vinegar, tobacco… If we stick to this and avoid those things, our teeth will stay white for longer.
Teeth whitening treatment lasts 3 to 4 weeks, so sticking to these guidelines is not especially hard.
Does teeth whitening treatment cause sensitivity?
- Yes. But that increase in tooth sensitivity is completely normal. It is mainly because the pores in the tooth enamel are wide open while we are having treatment. As a result, temperature stimuli reach the tooth nerve much faster.
- Depending on the case, sensitivity can be greater or lesser. It goes away once we have finished the treatment.

- First we run an in-practice session with 4 applications of whitening product, which we activate with an ultraviolet lamp.
- Then the patient applies a whitening product at home for about two hours a day over 3 weeks.
