Many patients come to our practice wondering whether a tooth has to be taken out in order to have clear aligner treatment and fix severe crowding. At Clínica Peydro we hardly ever extract teeth. The reason? We believe in keeping every tooth so the smile arch is as wide as possible.
Why don’t we extract teeth at Clínica Peydro?
In our view there is no need to extract teeth in order to carry out clear aligner treatment. Orthodontic techniques have moved on, and so has the training of many practitioners, Dr. Diego Peydro among them.
The old thinking was: “This is an adult, so we cannot change the bone, which means a tooth has to come out to fix the crowding”. That idea is now behind us, thanks to the new techniques that have emerged in dentistry.
At Clínica Peydro we have been using conservative techniques for years so that we do not have to extract teeth and can keep all 28 teeth in the mouth, since each one has a completely different job to do. Not extracting teeth…
- Gives you better stability when you bite and when the teeth meet
- Helps you preserve your oral tissues
- Helps you keep your gums healthy
When teeth are extracted, the bone ends up with less volume and the dental arches become more compressed and closed, which takes away from the beauty of your smile.
Every year our practice sees hundreds of patients who have had more than one tooth removed for orthodontic treatment and who now have severe positioning problems, which makes it clear that extractions in orthodontics do not help correct severe crowding.
How do we make orthodontic treatment effective without extracting teeth?
As we mentioned above, plenty of bone volume is essential for a spectacular smile, which is why we do not extract teeth at Clínica Peydro. But how do we get bone to grow in adult patients?
Thanks to clear aligners, and to the protocols developed by Dr. Diego Peydro, it is possible to plan treatment from the root up, changing the bone in adult patients and achieving wide arches that allow the teeth to be aligned without any need for extractions.
Would you like to see an example? Severe crowding and a gummy smile corrected with aligners. If you have been to a dental practice and been told that your case can only be solved with extractions, do not hesitate to book a free first visit with us by clicking here.
