White spots on the teeth are a common concern among patients looking for teeth whitening. These spots can be the result of various conditions, such as dental fluorosis, decalcification or enamel hypoplasia. In this article we show you a case that illustrates how whitening can be an effective way to minimize the appearance of these white spots and improve the look of a smile.
A patient of around 35 came to our dental practice worried about the white spots on his front teeth. Those spots, present since his teens, had become more noticeable over time, especially as his teeth took on a yellowish tone. After analyzing his case, we proposed professional teeth whitening.

The aim of whitening in patients with white spots is to even out the shade of the enamel and the dentine so that the spots become less noticeable. It is important to bear in mind that white spots, being absolute white, will not whiten any further. First a professional cleaning was carried out, and then the gums were protected with a barrier gel to avoid sensitivity.
Finally, a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel was applied at a concentration suitable for moderate staining. The gel was activated with a special light that speeds up the whitening process.
After several sessions —the number varies depending on the degree of discoloration and each person’s response to treatment— this patient’s teeth showed a notable improvement in their overall color. The white spots became less visible as the rest of the enamel took on a lighter, more even shade.
