We know that a gummy smile is one of the big worries for many of our patients. Most of them come to us concerned about the possibility of having to go through surgery. At Clínica Peydro we are a leading dental practice in Valencia when it comes to correcting a gummy smile with clear aligners.

Today, as an example, we are presenting the case of a young woman who came to our clinic worried about the way her smile looked and, specifically, about how gummy it was when she smiled.

After visiting several dental practices where she was told she would have to go through aggressive surgery to reduce her gummy smile, the patient came to us on the recommendation of people she knew.
The young woman immediately put herself in Dr. Diego Peydro’s hands and, after a preliminary study, it was clear that she could correct her gummy smile with clear aligners and without needing surgery.
Analyzing the look of her smile
In analyzing her smile, we detected that the patient had an unbalanced smile and showed a lot of gum when she smiled. She also had protrusion of the front teeth, which meant she showed them excessively.

As you can see in photograph 2, she had very visible steps between the upper central incisors and the lateral incisors, which made her smile look asymmetric.
As for the bite, the patient had a severe class II malocclusion with a greatly increased deep bite, retroclined upper and lower incisors and moderate crowding.
After analyzing the case

After studying her case, Dr. Diego Peydro decided that the best approach was to treat her gummy smile with Invisalign clear aligners. The aims of that treatment were:
- To develop the dental arches so that they were much wider
- To increase the proclination of the upper and lower incisors
- To increase the intrusion of the upper incisors, so as to change the position of the gum and tuck it away beneath the lip
- To solve the crowding present in both arches
- To design wider arches that would give her a fuller smile and much more support for the soft tissue, resulting in a spectacular-looking smile
Then, at the end of the treatment, we decided to carry out a gingivoplasty in which we reshaped the gum slightly to give it a more attractive form.
