Is there anything better than a healthy, beautiful smile? This patient came to our practice to improve his dental health and the look of his teeth. It was a very complicated case, since the patient had a severe malocclusion that had been damaging his teeth. That is why Dr. Marta and Dr. Diego Peydro decided on a treatment plan based on orthodontics, implants, whitening and composite veneers.

The patient’s diagnosis
After examining him carefully, and despite how young he was, we found he had a severe malocclusion affecting his bite.
As we can see in the photographs, the patient had considerable crowding. The lack of space and of development in the bones of the upper and lower jaw had left the teeth piled up against one another, creating areas of recession, as in the lower incisor, and areas of wear caused by crossbite and edge-to-edge contact, as in the upper incisors.
You can also see the excessive, asymmetric tilt of the upper teeth and how the lower incisor is completely outside the bone.
It is also striking how the upper incisors sit at an asymmetric angle within the bone because of the crowding, and how the lower incisor is also outside the bone across the whole front section.
The treatment plan set out by the doctors
After the diagnosis and a professional cleaning, we established a treatment plan with a stage to correct the position of the teeth with orthodontics, a stage to replace the missing molars and an esthetic dentistry stage. The treatment was carried out in the following order:
- Orthodontic treatment with Damon system braces
- Replacing the missing teeth in the upper right jaw with dental implants
- Teeth whitening
- Composite veneers
The orthodontic treatment was based on developing the upper and lower jawbone so as to correct the crowding and the crossbite. The lower incisor that was outside the bone had to be extracted. You can see how we changed the arch form from triangular to semi-circular. During the orthodontic treatment, and before it ended, 2 implants were placed in the upper right jaw to replace the missing 2nd premolar and 1st molar.
Once the orthodontic and implant stage was over, we started planning the esthetic stage of the treatment. We needed to rebuild the teeth that had worn down and, to do that, we planned minimally invasive esthetic treatment with composite veneers, so that the final result would be lighter and brighter.
